Daniel and I both love a good vacation. This summer we stayed closer to home, but we still found time to get away. Although canceling our original trip to Mazatlan in July was painful at the time, it's probably the last place I wanted to be at 8 months pregnant, so instead we enjoyed a local trip to Whidbey Island.
I grew up going to my best friends cabin on Possession Bay and she was more than generous to let us stay out there for a few days. I went often enough with her family, that my name is still on their mailbox!
Day One: We took the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry, got settled at the cabin and then took off to explore Fort Casey and Oak Harbor for dinner. The weather was beautiful and we enjoyed hiking around Fort Casey and playing on the beach.

Day Two: We got up early and went exploring some of the local towns, including Langley and Coupeville. There are some cute shops and more beaches to walk and every restaraunt we passed seem to boast, "The Best Of Whidbey: ________ " (fill in the blank). Well, given the limited amount of specific Italian/Mexican/Greek restaurants, we could usually find the "best of" whatever we were in the mood for. :)

We also passed the Oak Harbor Navy Base where Daniel was born.

We visited Greenbank farms where we bought some great Loganberry wine and visited the cheese and pie shops. There were a row of Model T's that we saw around the island over the weekend. Probably the best afternoon break was visiting the Chocolate shop in Langley...yum! The baby started kicking after that snack! :)
Day Three: We walked the beach at Possession Bay, then took off to enjoy the long ride home via Deception Pass where we enjoyed a picnic lunch. I later heard that the Clinton-Mulkiteo ferry had a maintenance problem and was delayed 5 hours...so I'm glad we took advantage of the scenic route home!

Wait; Dan was born on a fighter jet? I guess that explains it...
